Pearl Harbor Visit from Thailand's Minister of Foreign Affairs: Emphasis on Alliance

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand Sihasak Phuangketkeow visited Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in the state of Hawaii as part of a series of official contacts. During this significant visit, he was welcomed by the Commander of the United States Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM), Admiral Samuel J. Paparo. During the visit, the Minister had the opportunity to closely inspect the military base and met with senior US officials within the command. This event, which showcased the long-standing defense cooperation between the two countries, caused a great diplomatic repercussion in the international arena. Attending this commemorative event directly were; Thailand's Ambassador to Washington Suraya Chindawongse, Admiral Paparo, and numerous representatives from both countries. This respectful step taken in this place where the traumas of the past are still in memory proved that the ties between the two countries have not only a military but also a humanitarian and historical dimension. In the continuation of the base visit, the Thai Minister also closely inspected the US Pacific Fleet and the international fleet participating in the RIMPAC (Rim of the Pacific) maritime exercise. Known as the world's largest multinational maritime exercise, RIMPAC is being held with broad participation between 24 Haziran and 1 Ağustos this year. Sihasak's on-site observation of this massive exercise aims to reinforce Thailand's active role in global and regional maritime security. Such large-scale military cooperations held in the Pacific region demonstrate the advanced level of coordination and solidarity among countries. The joint maneuvers of the participating countries also increase the capacity for rapid and effective intervention against potential maritime threats.
