Budget airline Wizz Air announced on Monday that it achieved its lowest-ever carbon emissions intensity of 50.6 grams of CO₂ per revenue passenger kilometre in its financial year 2026, a 3% year-on-year improvement. The company attributes this record to its young, fuel-efficient fleet, with 75% consisting of new-generation Airbus A320neo family aircraft, and the use of over 27,000 tonnes of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Wizz Air expanded its workforce by 2,775 employees and now employs people from more than 100 nationalities. While the airline plans to increase SAF usage and invest in innovative technologies, it acknowledged that limited SAF availability and high costs constrain the pace of aviation decarbonisation, making operational efficiency key.
