Artificial Intelligence and Ethics: A New Problem

The German poet Hölderlin said that language is the most dangerous gift to humans. Because language creates meanings, shapes minds, evokes emotions, and leads to action. Therefore, every word requires responsibility. Artificial intelligence has changed this relationship: it easily produces texts and reduces the responsibility of authorship. This situation leads to risks such as plagiarism, deception, and lies.

This phenomenon has reached the heart of the legal profession. A lawyer used artificial intelligence to produce 38,477 texts in three days. Another lawyer was suspended for a month for citing a non-existent doctrine in April. A judge also punished a colleague who put forward a fabricated precedent.

The authority of the law requires that a person be responsible for every text, decision, or petition. A lawyer's or judge's signature is not just a formality, but a guarantee of authorship and accuracy. If this guarantee weakens, the trust of the public in justice will also be undermined. Therefore, it has become urgent to counter this new ethical problem.
