August and September pension payment dates announced in Greece

The Greek Social Security Institution has officially announced the payment calendar for August and September pensions. It was stated that pension payments will be made on two separate dates depending on the different pension funds in the country. In this context, separate payment days have been determined for self-employed workers and private sector pensioners, and different payment days for public employees and former IKA pensioners. The payment calendar in question clarifies when millions of pensioners will receive the money in their bank accounts. The Greek government has presented a detailed plan so that citizens can follow the correct dates according to their own social security institutions.

For the August pensions, the first payment group consists of those retired from former funds such as OAEE, OGA, and ETAA, as well as those receiving supplementary (secondary) pensions from the private sector and self-employed workers. The money for all beneficiaries in this scope will be deposited into their bank accounts on Monday, 27 July. This group generally consists of people benefiting from the fund covering self-employed professionals and those engaged in commercial activities. The early payment date allows pensioners in this group to receive their monthly income more quickly. Authorities stated that transactions will be gradually completed through banks starting from this date.

The second payment group includes those retired from institutions such as IKA, Public (Dimosio), banks, OTE, NAT, DEI, ETAT, and ETAP-MME. In addition, those receiving supplementary pensions tied to the public sector are also evaluated in this second group. The August payments for this large group will be made on Wednesday, 29 July. Public employees and pensioners tied to broad-based social security institutions constitute a large majority of the country's pensioner population. The payments are planned to be reflected in accounts smoothly on these designated weekdays.

A similar distinction was taken into account when planning the payment dates for the September pensions. Pensioners in the first group who receive salaries from the OAEE, OGA, and ETAA funds, as well as beneficiaries of supplementary salaries for the private sector and self-employed workers, will receive their money on Tuesday, 25 August. This arrangement proceeds in parallel with the payment order in August. The payment of salaries for self-employed workers on an earlier date, rather than at the end of the month, continues as a traditional procedure. Thus, a systematic payment schedule is preserved for citizens retired from different sectors.

In the second and final stage of September payments, the payments of those retired from institutions such as IKA, public personnel, banks, OTE, NAT, and DEI will take place. Along with the pensioners in this group, the money of those receiving public sector supplementary pensions will be transferred to their accounts on Thursday, 27 August. The pension system in Greece has a very detailed classification based on workers' past sectors and the funds they were affiliated with. For this reason, authorities recommend that all pensioners act according to the dates determined by their own institutions and follow bank notifications. Social security institutions also announced that citizens will be informed in case of a possible delay or technical problem.
