Simultaneous Cybercrime Operation in 14 Provinces: Hundreds of Suspects Caught

A large-scale and simultaneous operation was conducted against cybercrime organizations across Turkey. Hundreds of suspects were detained in this comprehensive operation carried out in a total of 14 provinces, primarily Bursa, Kayseri, Adana, Sakarya, İstanbul, Malatya, Düzce, Batman, Kocaeli, Çorum, Mersin, Şanlıurfa, Siirt, and Kırıkkale. It was reported that Malatya was one of the central hubs of the operations and that teams there actively participated. Security forces are carrying out a determined struggle to prevent fraud and various illegal activities that citizens are exposed to in the digital environment. In the simultaneous raids conducted at addresses identified under the coordination of the Cybercrime Combat Departments, operations caught in the act are ongoing, and the interrogation of the detained suspects continues.

The initial findings obtained within the scope of the investigation revealed that the suspects were involved in numerous cybercrimes using highly diverse and complex methods. Authorities announced that examinations uncovered serious crimes targeting the most sensitive fabric of society, such as the possession of obscene child images online. Furthermore, it was determined that some individuals victimized citizens by illegally engaging in usury through POS devices. Perpetrators providing unauthorized access to citizens' mobile banking applications and various online game accounts to drain them are also among the crimes uncovered during the operation. Actions such as operating illegal betting and gambling organizations, facilitating money transfers to these sites, and organizing advertising activities for these illegal platforms are among the main charges emphasized against the suspects.

It was determined that fraud incidents generally involved the use of social media platforms and fake websites created through phishing methods. Cybercrime networks set up highly convincing digital traps to seize citizens' personal and financial information. It was reported that suspects deceive people with false promises, particularly such as "high-yield investment opportunities," "internet modem fees," and "product fee refunds." Victims inadvertently open the door to fraudsters by clicking on these fake links or entering their information into fake forms. Authorities frequently emphasize the importance of increasing digital literacy and taking security measures, such as two-factor authentication, against such messages.

The procedures for the detained suspects at the police departments are ongoing with great meticulousness. In the digital forensic examinations conducted, evidence from the suspects' computers, phones, and other devices is being collected to shed light on the structure of the criminal organization. In the official statement made by the Ministry of Interior, it was stated that operations against cybercrime organizations will continue uninterruptedly and decisively across the country. Security units continue their efforts in all provinces with the same determination in the fight against cybercrimes such as illegal betting, account hijacking, and fraud. It was stated that after the procedures of the caught suspects at the police station are completed, they will be referred to the courthouse and brought before a judge to be tried.

It is stated that making the digital world a safe space requires not only the efforts of law enforcement but also the active role of citizens in this process. Authorities warn users to immediately report internet sites they find suspicious, emails sent for phishing purposes, and social media accounts to security units. Furthermore, social awareness is being raised that messages requesting personal information from unknown individuals should never be trusted and that unknown links should not be clicked. These operations underscore the invisible nature of cybercrimes, highlighting once again that digital security measures must become an integral part of daily life. While similar operations are expected to continue in the future, experts emphasize that citizens must continuously educate themselves against current cyber threats.
