700 Non-Compliant Chicks Seized at Antalya Bus Terminal

A highly significant detention and seizure operation took place during routine security and municipal police inspections at the Antalya Intercity Bus Terminal. Authorities identified a total of 700 turkey and chicken chicks that were sent illegally on a bus from the city of Bursa. This quantity highlights the scale of rule violations in animal transportation, once again demonstrating the sensitivity of authorized institutions to the issue. The complete lack of origin information for the animals emerged as the most critical factor prompting authorities to take immediate action. Mustafa Kaya, the Terminal Municipal Police Chief of the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality who conducted the inspection, stated that they found these live animals inside parcels in the morning hours and immediately assessed the gravity of the situation. The municipal police teams immediately sent an official notification to the Kepez District Agriculture and Forestry Directorate due to the expertise and legal authority required for the matter. Expert teams affiliated with the Agriculture and Forestry Directorate arrived at the scene and inspected the health conditions and transportation circumstances of the chicks on-site. As a result of detailed inspections, it was confirmed that the animals were dispatched under illegal and unhealthy conditions. Subsequently, based on animal welfare and public health, all 700 chicks were seized under the supervision of security forces.

The officials conducting the investigation determined that the act constitutes a crime under Law No. 5996 on Veterinary Services, Plant Health, Food, and Feed. In accordance with the relevant articles of the law, severe sanctions and penal actions were imposed on the bus company that transported the animals illegally. This penalty was finalized not only to penalize the current firm but also to warn other carriers in the sector and prevent similar illegal activities. The authorities emphasized that the fight against companies that disregard food and live animal safety standards will continue to the end.
