Mother and two children in the car that flew into the channel in Aydın saved thanks to the heroic municipal worker

The traffic accident that occurred in the Efeler district of Aydın became a story of heroism. The car, driven by a driver named B.E. (38), lost control for an unknown reason while passing under the Yeniköy Mahallesi Otoban Köprüsü. Losing control, the vehicle was thrown into the irrigation canal right next to the road and submerged in the water. Inside the vehicle were the driver, a mother, and her two children, ten-year-old Y.E. and N.E. The severity of the crash and the submersion of the vehicle posed a risk of instantly turning into a disaster.

At that exact moment, Ahmet Katılmış, an Efeler Belediyesi employee who was passing by the road during working hours, noticed the car in the flowing water. Seeing the situation with his own eyes, Katılmış did not hesitate for a moment and jumped into the cold water, risking his own life. This immediate reaction, displayed to prevent the incident from escalating and to avert a tragedy, gained critical time until teams arrived at the scene. Drawing attention with his composure and bravery, the municipal worker put up a great struggle to reach those trapped inside the submerged vehicle.

The heroic employee, completely disregarding his own life, first managed to pull the two children out from under the water one by one. After the children were safely removed from the water, it was the turn of the mother, B.E., who was trapped in the vehicle. The mother was also safely rescued from the irrigation canal with Katılmış's help, thus preventing a major tragedy. The selfless and swift action of the citizen who intervened ensured the rescue of the family, who were on the verge of losing their lives. Other citizens around watched this courageous rescue operation by holding their breath.

Following the immediate intervention in the accident, health, police, gendarmerie, and Aydın Büyükşehir Belediyesi İtfaiye Daire Başkanlığı teams were dispatched to the scene. Arriving at the scene shortly after, the teams took the necessary security measures in the area and launched a comprehensive investigation. Health teams checked the condition of the rescued mother and her two children on-site, and following initial interventions, it was determined that their health was in good condition. The car, which had been in the water for a long time, suffered heavy damage and became completely unusable. The absence of any loss of life was the greatest source of consolation for those involved in the accident and the teams that arrived at the scene.

The courage displayed by Ahmet Katılmış, who risked his life to save three people from the depths of the water, was met with intense appreciation by the local people and authorities. While police teams completed the crime scene investigation and maintained security measures in the closed area, the car removed from the water was towed away from the scene.
