The denial of insurance claims creates a serious financial burden for both patients and healthcare providers. To find a solution to this problem, a group of university students in the UAE developed an innovative AI-powered platform. The main purpose of this platform is to predict and prevent potential denial situations before insurance claims are submitted to systems. Thus, both the grievance of patients will be resolved and the operational efficiency of hospitals can be increased. The startup aims to offer a permanent solution to a major administrative problem in the healthcare and insurance ecosystem.
Saeed Galadari, CEO of this startup called ClaimGuard AI, told Khaleej Times the story of how the project came to life. Galadari stated that the idea was born during the 'Founders of Tomorrow' program, organized in partnership with Dubai SME and INJAZ UAE to support university students. The team, which he was also a part of, was among the winners of this initiative, which aims to transform university students' innovative ideas into viable business models. This success provided great momentum for young entrepreneurs in terms of mentorship, access to finance, and the commercialization process.
The AI-based platform in question analyzes insurance claims before they are officially submitted and identifies potential errors that could lead to their denial. According to data from insurance broker eSanad, the most common causes of claim denials include hidden chronic conditions, prior authorizations not obtained, and discrepancies in digital coding standards. ClaimGuard AI, however, detects these errors in advance, giving healthcare institutions the opportunity to correct them. As a result, reimbursement rates increase while delays in administrative processes are minimized.
Galadari emphasized that the system they developed not only solves an administrative problem but also supports the financial sustainability of institutions. The platform, which offers AI-driven insights, increases the operational efficiency of hospitals while directly improving the quality of patient care. Furthermore, this innovative step fully aligns with the United Arab Emirates' goals of digital transformation and AI integration in healthcare. Such projects, developed in line with the country's technological vision, also contribute to the formation of a regional ecosystem.
On the other hand, Abdelaziz Almaazmi, Director of the Business Incubation Department at Dubai SME, stated that the 'Founders of Tomorrow' program was designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and the real business world. This year, more than 20 students participated in 9 different projects, developing technology-focused solutions to challenges presented by organizations such as Dubai Police, Emirates Flight Catering, Dubai Maritime Authority, and American Hospital Dubai. After an intensive three-month mentorship process, students are offered the opportunity to commercialize their ideas. Dubai SME continues to stand by young entrepreneurs by providing incubation services and situation-based funding support to projects after the competition.
