Bodrum wrong overtaking disaster: 2 injured and those moments on camera

The traffic accident that occurred in the Gölköy Neighborhood of Bodrum, a touristic district of Muğla, has brought drivers' safety concerns in the region back to the agenda. According to initial information obtained, driver error and specifically a faulty overtaking maneuver stand out as the main cause of the accident, while the severity of the collision caused material damage in both vehicles. The shock effect of the incident was reflected on the dashboard camera of a lucky driver passing by, creating visual evidence of how the accident occurred. While it is learned that the health status of the accident victims is stable, police teams are deepening the investigation into the incident to determine fault.

When looking at the technical details of the accident, it was determined that the car with license plate 34 KSE 336, driven by Remzi Y., attempted to overtake in a manner contrary to the rules. During this time, an inevitable collision occurred with the other car driven by Deniz Y., whose license plate has not yet been identified, coming from the opposite direction. Due to the impact of the collision, the car used by Remzi Y. lost control, went off the road and overturned, while the other car was damaged by the severity of the collision. At the shocking moment, it was noted that passengers in both vehicles experienced great panic and a short-term chaos occurred in traffic due to the shock of the moment. Emniyet officials, stating that such accidents are mostly caused by drivers violating traffic signs and speed limits, warned drivers to be careful.

In official statements regarding the condition of the injured, it was stated that the accident victims were promptly dispatched to surrounding hospitals and kept under observation for precautionary purposes. Specifically, it was learned that Tamar S., a Georgian national who was a passenger, and the driver Remzi Y. underwent tests due to suspicions of bruises and fractures in their ribs and various parts of their body due to the impact they experienced. The rapid arrival of health teams to the scene and performing the first intervention played a critical role in preventing possible more serious health problems. It was confirmed by doctors that the injured are not in life-threatening condition, but their treatment will continue for a while and their health condition is proceeding stably. This development allowed families and relatives to breathe a sigh of relief.

The most striking aspect of the accident is that it was recorded by chance on another vehicle's camera. The dashboard camera (dashcam) of a civilian vehicle passing by recorded the moment of the faulty overtaking maneuver, the approach of the oncoming car, and the horrific collision second by second. In the footage, it is clearly seen that the vehicle making the faulty overtaking and passing into the opposite lane hit the other driver very hard without leaving a chance to maneuver and stopped by rolling over. Security forces added these images to the file as evidence of the quality of data to determine the course of the accident and the rate of fault. The records revealed how most traffic accidents can result in fatal consequences with just a momentary lack of attention or rule violation.

Following this sad event, officials and non-governmental organizations in Bodrum called on drivers to be more careful and issued warnings.
