Journalist Couple İsmet and Hafize Akıncı Involved in Traffic Accident in Çanakkale

İsmet Akıncı, owner of Boğaz Medya and a well-known figure in the Çanakkale press, and Hafize Akıncı, President of the Çanakkale Journalists Association, were injured in a traffic accident on Sunday night. The vehicle heading from Bursa towards Çardak crashed into a roadside electric pole at around 02:30 AM, after the headlights of an oncoming vehicle obstructed the driver's vision.

The driver, İsmet Akıncı, who escaped the accident with minor scratches, noted that the incident happened instantly and drew attention to the difficulties of night driving. A fracture was detected in the back of his wife, Hafize Akıncı, who was taken to the hospital, while another female passenger in the vehicle also suffered broken ribs. It was reported that the health condition of the female passenger is good and she is not in life-threatening danger.

The car, which became unusable after sustaining heavy damage in the accident, caused great sorrow in the local press community. The incident brought the issues of vision loss caused by illegal LED headlights of oncoming vehicles during night drives and traffic safety back to the agenda. Numerous journalists from Çanakkale conveyed their get-well wishes to their colleagues.
