Harsh 'Coward' Response from Eduardo Bolsonaro to Zé Trovão

In Brazil's political agenda, tensions escalated between former President Jair Bolsonaro's son, Eduardo Bolsonaro, and Federal Congressman Zé Trovão. The friction emerged following Trovão's statements on a podcast program. Trovão stated that Bolsonaro should accept his defeat in the 2022 elections and call on his supporters to respect the results. He also spoke in favor of the former president stopping his objection to the election results and closing the process. These words came at a time when Bolsonaro is in prison following his conviction on charges of an attempted coup. The situation reveals the deep ties and political schism within the right wing.

It was observed that Trovão noticeably changed his tone just a few hours after his statements. While defending himself, he claimed that Bolsonaro was a victim of political persecution and described his judicial processes as a historic injustice. However, this sudden turn was not enough to calm Eduardo Bolsonaro's anger. Eduardo went on the attack with a message posted on his X (formerly known as Twitter) account, reminding everyone of Trovão's past arrest. Interpreting his current stance as a betrayal to the party, Eduardo presented this situation openly to the public.

Jair Bolsonaro's political situation continues to be highly complex. The former president was tried on allegations of attempting a coup following the 2022 elections and was sentenced to 27 years and three months in prison. He is currently held under house arrest by the decision of Supreme Federal Court (STF) Justice Alexandre de Moraes, citing humanitarian reasons. This legal process continues to be a serious element of pressure on his supporters and family. Trovão's statements, on the other hand, assumed the role of a catalyst that raised tensions in this delicate balance.

Eduardo Bolsonaro's challenge was not limited to recent statements and extended to Zé Trovão's political past. The former congressman reminded that Trovão was arrested by Alexandre de Moraes in 2021 as part of investigations into anti-democratic actions, and was even preparing to flee to Türkiye. He emphasized that after getting out of prison, Trovão ran as a candidate for the Liberal Party, Jair Bolsonaro's party, in the 2022 elections. Eduardo criticized this situation with the words: "He was saved from prison, ran for office from Bolsonaro's party, and now accuses him of cowardice."

Additionally, Zé Trovão's support for Pablo Marçal lies in the background of this dispute. In posts shared by Eduardo, it was reminded that in the 2024 São Paulo mayoral election, Trovão supported Pablo Marçal instead of Ricardo Nunes, who was supported by Jair Bolsonaro. It was even emphasized that during that period, Trovão made the hand sign for Marçal's campaign. In another post, Trovão was criticized for complaining every day about having to respond to President Lula da Silva's statements as a requirement of his opposition duty. These events indicate that a restructuring and war of alliances are taking place in Brazil's conservative political spectrum.
