Boat accidents off the coast of Eğina and Andros: No injuries

Two separate maritime accidents that occurred in Greece's popular Aegean islands have drawn attention to the density of maritime traffic in the region. While the first incident took place in the sea area southeast of Eğina, the second accident occurred around the Despotiko islet connected to Andros. In statements made by authorities, reassuring information was shared, noting that there were no casualties or injuries in either accident. Such maritime incidents come to the fore from time to time, especially during the summer months, due to heavy boat traffic in the region. The first incident, which occurred off the coast of Eğina, involves boats navigating in the southeastern waters of the island. Greek Coast Guard and Port Authority teams intervened quickly at both incident locations. In the area where accident reports were filed, authorities began taking statements from the operators of the marine vessels. Although there were no injuries, detailed investigations are ongoing to repair any potential damage to the boats and to determine whether they caused marine pollution. Such maritime accidents require authorities to be on high alert during periods when inter-island transportation and tourist boat tours are intense. Port authorities continue to warn small boat owners, especially in tourist areas, about navigation and safe driving.

These developments, occurring in the middle of the summer months, have once again exposed the risks of heavy marine traffic in the Aegean Sea. Although both accidents were overcome without turning into a major disaster, they served as an important warning for maritime authorities and local administrations.
