In the incident that occurred on the night of 28 Haziran in Istanbul's Piri Mehmet Paşa Mahallesi, a suspect named G.G. tried to forcibly drag his ex-wife H.Ç. away by her arm. The woman asked bystanders for help, shouting, 'He is going to kill me. What do you want from me? I don't want you. Help me, call the police.' The moment of the incident was recorded with a mobile phone camera.

A passerby tried to intervene in the incident, but the suspect reacted. After talking on the phone for a while, G.G. left the woman on the sidewalk and departed the scene. H.Ç., on the other hand, ran away down the street. According to witness statements, the woman was in a state of great fear and panic.

Police teams caught G.G. after the incident. The suspect, who was referred to the courthouse after procedures at the police station, was released by the court he appeared before on the condition of judicial control. This decision was met with reaction by civil society organizations fighting against femicide and domestic violence.

Experts state that the condition of judicial control is insufficient and that more deterrent measures need to be taken to prevent similar incidents from recurring. Women's associations are demanding more effective legal regulations to protect the victim and keep the suspect away.

The incident once again brought the dimensions of violence against women in Turkey to the agenda. Officials emphasize that social awareness needs to be increased and legal processes accelerated in order to prevent similar cases.
