Funeral Ceremonies of Iran's Religious Leader Khamenei Began in July 2026

Iran's religious leader Ali Khamenei lost his life on February 28, 2026, as a result of a joint airstrike conducted by US and Israeli forces. The strike targeted the leadership compound in the capital, Tehran, and in this incident, along with Khamenei, some members of his family also lost their lives. In the continuation of the process, commemorative programs began to be held in other centers of religious and symbolic importance. Ceremonies included in the program were held in Qom, one of Iran's holiest cities, and in addition, commemorative events were organized in the holy cities of neighboring country, Iraq. The primary reason for choosing Mashhad is that Ali Khamenei was born in this city and it holds great importance for his personal history. Following the completion of all commemorative programs continuing throughout July in line with the new funeral schedule, his body will reach its eternal resting place in the lands where he was born. During this process, the Iranian administration aimed to emphasize national unity and solidarity in the country, while also demonstrating the state's power and stability to both the inside and the outside world.
