The Detailed Story of Osman Güntaş, Who Lost His Life in the Bear Attack in İzmir

The tragedy befell 70-year-old Osman Güntaş, a resident of Karakoç neighborhood in Doğanbey Mahallesi, Seferihisar district of İzmir, during the night hours. Güntaş was attacked by a bear that descended into the area while he was sleeping on a couch in front of his house. Upon realizing the incident, those around immediately called the 112 Acil Çağrı Merkezi to report the situation, and upon the notification, gendarmerie and health teams were dispatched to the scene.

Following the initial intervention by health teams at the scene, Osman Güntaş, whose condition was critical, was taken to Seferihisar Necat Hepkon Devlet Hastanesi. However, despite the interventions, the elderly man's life remained in danger. Therefore, Güntaş, who was referred for further treatment, was transferred to Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi Araştırma ve Uygulama Hastanesi.

Despite the intense efforts of doctors and all medical interventions at Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi Araştırma ve Uygulama Hastanesi, unfortunately Osman Güntaş could not be saved and lost his life. This tragic incident, in which the elderly man fought courageously, plunged his loved ones and the local community into deep grief. Authorities announced that necessary investigations have been initiated following this unfortunate incident.

Immediately after the incident, gendarmerie and Doğa Koruma ve Milli Parklar Şube Müdürlüğü teams were dispatched to the region. These teams launched a comprehensive investigation and search operation in the vicinity where the attacked individual was found. Field work continues to prepare a detailed report regarding the area where the bear was found and the moment of the attack. These investigations are of great importance for preventing similar incidents in the future.
