Keçiören Mayor Özarslan: AK Party was never distant from us

Keçiören Mayor Mesut Özarslan made important statements regarding the controversies about him and the inter-party transition process, clarifying his political stance. Özarslan, who is on the agenda with his effectiveness in local governments and his political identity, argued that his past presence in the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) and his current position under the AK Party roof do not represent an ideological break. In his assessments regarding the issue, Özarslan highlighted both his personal identity and emphasized the importance of his political past with the words, “We are a Turk offspring with personality and character.” Stating that the MHP was a fundamental educational institution where his political thought was shaped, meaning their political kitchen sprouted in terms of mindset with this party, he referred to his nationalist roots. However, at the same time, he stated that the AK Party was not a completely foreign or distant structure in their political lives; on the contrary, they were always close through their social circles and friendships.

Özarslan’s expressions reflect an understanding that evaluates political parties not as opposing poles but under the same national roof.
