आंकड़ों में
In archaeological excavations carried out in the Yarega region of the Komi Republic in Russia, 200 ancient artifacts belonging to the Stone Age were unearthed. Among them are hand tools made from different minerals other than flint, which are of a nature to change the known views about the material selection of the ancient inhabitants of the region.
The team, led by Natalya Volokitina, completed the excavation in a 17-square-meter area at the end of a two-week study. Among the findings obtained on the surface are scrapers used for processing leather and wood, as well as core rock pieces (nuclei) used for the production of stone tools.
Experts state that these unique mineral findings, specially processed outside of flint, are a situation unique to Yarega. With the help of volunteers who supported the excavation work, archaeologists continue to better understand the lifestyle of the Komi people in the post-glacial period.
