Five Important Invertebrate Species Maintaining the Ecosystem Balance of the Pantanal

In the Pantanal, the world's largest wetland, invertebrates play a critical role in the functioning of the ecosystem. These groups of organisms are involved in vital processes such as the decomposition of organic matter, nutrient recovery into the food chain, and the pollination of plant species. Invertebrates in the region span a wide range, including crustaceans, spiders, scorpions, and insects, which are the most populous group on the planet.

The first species covered in the news is the Mandaçaia-do-Pantanal, a stingless bee species whose population is declining due to habitat degradation and agricultural pesticides.
