Agreement signed to restart train services between Philadelphia and Reading

The Schuylkill River Passenger Railroad Authority (SRPRA) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Amtrak aimed at reviving passenger train service between the cities of Philadelphia and Reading. The relevant rail line is planned to cover routes through Philadelphia, Phoenixville, Pottstown, and Reading. Authorities consider this collaboration a significant milestone in reconnecting regional communities to the Northeast Corridor.

It has been more than forty years since the last passenger train stop in Phoenixville. This process, which began in 2022 when Berks, Chester, and Montgomery counties came together to establish the SRPRA, came as a result of years of local initiatives. Now, the SRPRA has formalized its intention to designate Amtrak as the operator of the potential line.

Despite this, there is still work to be done and studies to be completed for the project to be fully realized. Under the newly signed agreement, Amtrak has committed to providing support, estimating costs, and preparing revenue projections up to the next phase of the project. Officials expressed their gratitude to all bipartisan supporters and stakeholders for the project's progress.
