Driver's License Regulations Changed in Ukrayna: New Processes and Mandatory Health Checks

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukrayna has decided to make radical changes to the current rules regarding the issuance of driver's licenses and citizens' vehicle driving permits. The new regulation aims to increase the country's traffic safety and gradually harmonize the legislation with European Union standards. In the official statement made by the Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko, it was emphasized that these innovations are expected to provide a permanent improvement, especially in road safety. Thus, Ukrayna has taken a significant step towards integrating driver control practices commonly applied in Europe into its own legal system. Authorities believe that this regulation will create a much safer traffic environment for both drivers and pedestrians.

According to the new regulation, the validity period of driver's licenses is now clearly categorized based on the type of vehicle used. Licenses in categories A, B, and sub-categories, which are valid for motorcycles and cars, will from now on be issued to be valid for fifteen years. However, for categories C, D, and similar categories covering trucks, buses, and other commercial vehicles, this period is limited to only five years. The main reason for this distinction is that the potential risk in traffic of drivers operating heavy commercial vehicles is much higher. Authorities announced that with this rule, a stricter and more regular control mechanism has been put into operation.

Furthermore, there is no need for drivers to retake any driving or traffic exams to renew their licenses when the determined periods expire. Only the physical renewal of the document and the fulfillment of the new health conditions will be considered sufficient for this process. This situation makes the transition to the new system quite smooth and easy for the citizens.
