Bolivia investigates claim that Russian army recruited soldiers through fraud

The Attorney General of Bolivia announced that it is conducting an investigation into allegations that the country's citizens were deceived with misleading job offers and incorporated into the Russian armed forces. It is stated that the victims were dragged into war with false promises and sent to conflict zones in Ukraine.

In recent days, videos have been published on social media showing Bolivians wearing Russian military uniforms and located in war zones. Bolivian Attorney General Rohér Mariaka stated that the human trafficking unit is investigating the incident and that international cooperation has been requested.

The investigation focuses particularly on the situation of a 29-year-old Bolivian named Jose Mariá Soleto. It was learned that Soleto, whose wife announced his death, left the country with the promise of a $16,000 salary and was later driven to the front lines. Similar fraud allegations have also come to the agenda in countries such as Peru and Colombia.
