Wildfire hits Summerland in British Columbia

A wildfire in the Bald Range area near Summerland, British Columbia, has spread to approximately 5,000 hectares as of Saturday morning and remains uncontrolled. The fire is threatening the Summerland area, which experienced a power outage on Saturday. Summerland, with a population of around 12,000, is about 45 kilometers from the city of Kelowna.

British Columbia, along with the provinces of Ontario and Quebec, is battling numerous wildfires this year due to hot and dry weather conditions. Personnel from Mexico, Australia, France, and New Zealand are assisting in the firefighting efforts in Canada. British Columbia Premier David Eby stated earlier in the week that the province has sufficient resources to combat the fires and is prepared to utilize national and international firefighting teams and air assets if needed.
