10 People Who Lost Their Lives in the Eskişehir Seyitgazi Forest Fire Commemorated

10 forest workers and volunteers who lost their lives in the forest fire that occurred in the Seyitgazi district of Eskişehir on 23 July 2025 were commemorated with an event held in Ankara on the first anniversary of the incident. Official institution representatives and martyrs' families attended the program titled "FOR THEM", organized in collaboration with the General Directorate of Forestry (OGM) and AKUT at the Necmettin Erbakan Congress Center in Mamak.

Speaking at the program, martyr fathers İbrahim Can and Güler Arslan gave emotional messages, stating that their children lost their lives while protecting the forests. İbrahim Can stated that those who lost their lives in the fire died by coming together for the sake of the Green Homeland. Güler Arslan stated that she prepared a documentary by compiling her son's memories and that this documentary will be screened at the Muhsin Ertuğrul Stage.

Within the scope of the event, the measures taken against forest fires were also mentioned; it was stated that approximately 150 fires occurred in Ankara this year and the majority of them were human-induced. Recep Şalcı, an AFAD official, noted that with the new regulation, OGM will be the sole authorized institution in responding to forest fires. At the end of the program, symbolic helmets were presented to the martyrs' families and an exhibition consisting of the photographs of those who lost their lives in the fire was opened.
