HGSS Rescues Young Couple Stranded Without Water on Biokovo in 36°C Heat

The Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS) rescued a young married couple who became stranded on Biokovo Nature Park after running out of water during a hike in extreme 36°C heat. The foreign nationals started their climb in the afternoon without enough water or proper equipment, and one of them became dehydrated, exhausted, and unable to walk. HGSS Makarska received the emergency call at 21:30 and deployed 16 rescuers with five vehicles, locating the couple using a drone. After first aid, the more severely affected person was transported by stretcher to an emergency medical team. The operation ended around 02:00. HGSS warned that such incidents are increasing due to high temperatures and lack of preparation, urging hikers to avoid difficult hikes in extreme heat, carry sufficient water, and wear appropriate gear.
