Woman's body found at ECL mine in India

The decomposed body of a young woman who had been missing for about a week was found at the Bonjemari Open Cast Mine Project (OCP), located in the Paschim Bardhaman district of India's West Bengal state. After local residents noticed the body on Sunday morning at the mine site owned by Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), a large crowd gathered in the area upon reporting the situation. Security forces arrived at the scene and recovered the body from a deep and rocky part of the mine. Following the incident, a detailed investigation was launched in the area falling under the jurisdiction of the Salanpur police station.

The deceased woman was identified as 26-year-old Purnima Bauri following an examination of her clothes. According to a statement given by Bauri's family, residing in Shibdaspur in the Salanpur area, the young woman was struggling with some mental health issues. It was learned that Purnima left home on 5 July and never returned. It was reported that after the young woman's disappearance, her family filed a missing person report at the Salanpur police station.

The discovery of the body at the mine after a search lasting about a week plunged the family and local residents into deep grief. As soon as police teams arrived at the scene, they launched an operation to retrieve the body from the depths of the mine under difficult terrain conditions. The recovered body was sent to Asansol State Hospital for an autopsy to determine the cause of death and complete legal procedures. It was stated that initial examinations at the scene did not reveal any clear findings as to whether the death was suspicious, but all possibilities were being taken into consideration.

Security forces are conducting an extensive investigation to uncover whether an accident or foul play led to the death of Purnima Bauri. Officials conducting the investigation are trying to determine how the young woman entered the mine area and what ended her life there. The recovery of the body from the mine site has led to various questions among the public in the area. The teams carrying out the examination continue to carefully handle all possible scenarios and evidence before reaching any conclusion.

Purnima's uncle, Raghunath Bauri, in his statement regarding the moment the body was found, stated that people going into the forested area noticed the body. Bauri expressed that after citizens near the temple informed the family of the situation, they notified the police, and the teams arrived to recover the body. Based on observations made at the scene, it is estimated that the body had been in the mine site for a few days. Officials stated that the course of the investigation would become clear after detailed forensic examinations were completed and the autopsy report was received.
