UAPA Invoked Against Suspect Who Insulted Victim of Pahalgam Attack in Hindistan

Police in Kollam, located in Hindistan's Kerala state, announced that they have invoked the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) following the arrest of an individual returning from Suudi Arabistan. According to a statement made by officials on Monday, the suspect was arrested for allegedly making a disturbing comment under a video featuring the daughter of a victim killed in a terror attack. 26-year-old Muhammed Sanoof, identified as a resident of the Aikkarappadi area in Malappuram district, was detained on 4 Temmuz while landing at Karipur Havalimanı. Authorities stated that the comprehensive law was applied after Sanoof's interrogation and the examination of his mobile phone. The police noted that critical evidence seized during the preliminary investigation also played a role in this decision.

In the background of the incident is a complaint filed last year at the Muttam police station in Kollam. In a case initiated upon the application of a leader of the organization named Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), Sanoof was accused of sharing harassing comments on social media. The comment in question was made under a video about the daughter of a victim named N. Ramachandran from the Kochi region, who was killed in the Pahalgam terror attack organized in the past period. After the suspect left the country, the police issued a detention order and a look-out notice for him.
