First Electric Bentley Torcal to be Introduced in the Fall

Luxury car manufacturer Bentley is preparing to present its first fully electric model, the Torcal, to its customers' liking in the autumn months. In keeping with the company's tradition, the vehicle's name was inspired by the impressive limestone formations in the El Torcal de Antequera region in southern Spain. Additionally, this name has a deeply rooted connection to the Latin word 'torquere,' which is the concept we know as torque in the modern automotive world. This naming represents both the vehicle's architectural connection with nature and a nod to its powerful engine performance. Thus, Bentley plans to step into its electric revolution in the luxury segment with a highly meaningful name.

The launch of the Torcal carries great strategic importance as the fourth series to be added alongside the brand's existing Bentayga, Continental GT, and Flying Spur models. In terms of design, the new model is an SUV (sport utility vehicle) and, while sharing a similar structure with the Bentayga, it has been designed to be physically slightly more compact. The EXP 100 GT concept design study introduced last year provided significant clues about this vehicle's exterior lines. In the production version, the design appears to be much more simplified, with daily practicality coming to the forefront rather than the sloping rear roofline seen in the concept. Despite its body length of approximately five meters, the vehicle offers a spacious interior and does not compromise on the flamboyant luxury details characteristic of Bentley.

Looking at the technical infrastructure, it is evident that the vehicle is supported by a robust architecture originating from within the Volkswagen Group. The Torcal, which utilizes the same PPE (Premium Platform Electric) base architecture as the new electric Porsche Cayenne, may feature a single motor with 300 kilowatts of power in its base equipment. However, given that it is a luxury Bentley, it is considered highly likely that the vehicle will always be sold with an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system and a significantly higher power output. Even if it has the potential to reach massive power levels such as 850 kilowatts like the Porsche Cayenne, Bentley is expected to focus on the vehicle's refined driving dynamics and elegant road handling rather than this raw power. Equipped with an 800-volt electrical architecture, the vehicle's range is expected to exceed 500 kilometers on a single charge.

This new electric model is not a vehicle designed to replace the existing Bentayga model; on the contrary, it is positioned as a different alternative that will stand alongside it. Actually, Bentley had planned to introduce its first fully electric vehicle much earlier, in 2025. However, due to the slowing demand for electric vehicles in the global market and general uncertainties in the sector, the company had to strategically postpone this launch to a later date. This postponement decision aims to ensure the vehicle enters the market at a time more suited to market dynamics, during a period when buyers will be more receptive to luxury electric vehicles. Thus, the brand both protects its multimillion-Euro R&D investment and determines the market entry strategy best suited to current conditions.

The Torcal, which is expected to have a starting price of around 200.000 Euro, will be positioned in the highest segment of the luxury electric car market.
