The heatwave in İspanya has ended, but the 40-degree alarm continues in 13 regions

The İspanya State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) announced that the longest heatwave of the summer season has officially ended. However, this positive development does not mean that the danger of extreme heat has completely passed. A large part of the country continues to be crushed under the pressure of high temperatures. AEMET stated that, specifically, 13 autonomous communities remain on alert against the heatwave, and temperatures in some areas are at risk of exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. AEMET also provided a detailed account of the general sky conditions in its latest assessment regarding weather forecasts. Accordingly, partly cloudy or clear weather will prevail in most parts of the country; however, in regions such as western Endülüs, Galiçya, and Kantabriya, low cloud cover will be seen in the morning hours, and these clouds are expected to disperse during the day. In the afternoon, a risk of storms will emerge in the central and northern halves of the peninsula. Especially in the Galiçya region, locally heavy downpours and storms, possibly accompanied by hail, are expected. In the Kanarya Adaları, rainfall may be observed in the northern parts with the arrival of a not-very-active front.

In line with the statements from authorities, warnings for severe rainfall and storms, alongside extreme heat, continue to have an impact. Since there is a possibility of strong storms accompanied by hail on the coasts of Galiçya and western Kantabriya, alarm protocols have been activated for these regions. Moderate winds are expected to blow on the southern coasts of the country, while northeastern winds are predicted to be effective in Galiçya and Kantabriya. Additionally, nighttime temperatures not dropping below 20 degrees Celsius on the Mediterranean coasts and in some inland areas will prevent cool nights from replacing hot days. This situation stands out as a health-threatening factor, especially for the elderly and those with chronic conditions.
