Hourly Wage for Domestic Workers Increases in Colombia as of July 15

In Colombia, salary calculations for daily or hourly paid domestic workers are changing due to the reduction of the maximum weekly working hours to 42 starting from July 15. While there will be no change in the monthly minimum wage, the amounts reflected in daily wages and social benefits will increase because the value of the worked hour will rise.

The ordinary hourly wage will increase from the previous 9,948 peso level to 10,442 peso. This regulation brings along the salary increase that has arisen in order to adapt to the new 42-hour weekly working period.

Employers will also be obliged to proportionally pay social benefits such as severance pay, bonuses, annual leave, and transportation assistance. Contributions to the social security system will continue uninterrupted, and health, pension, and occupational risk insurance contributions will be mandatorily maintained.
