In Malezya, BN Candidate Promises to Transform Benut Area into a Modern City

The Benut constituency in Malezya's Pontian district has come to the forefront with a significant development promise ahead of the upcoming state elections. Datuk Mohd. Sumali Reduan, running for the Benut Legislative Assembly (DUN) seat as the National Front (Barisan Nasional - BN) candidate, announced that he aims to make the region a rapidly developing and well-equipped city. The experienced candidate, also known among the public as Tok Moly, emphasized that their primary goal is to elevate Benut to a level where it can compete with neighboring development areas. This ambitious vision put forward by the candidate addresses the infrastructure and economic issues that the local community has long awaited to be resolved. This situation has also reignited local development debates, which are likely to play a critical role in determining the voting tendencies of the region's residents.

One of Sumali's most urgent priorities is to bring a full-service commercial bank to the Benut area. It is noted that currently, there are only National Savings Bank (BSN) and Bank Rakyat branches in the region, which is insufficient for the needs of the local population. The fact that residents wishing to conduct more comprehensive banking transactions have to travel to neighboring areas such as Pontian, Rengit, or Simpang Renggam creates a significant grievance. To revitalize the economy of Benut, which has a strong agricultural sector particularly involved in palm oil, pineapple, vegetable production, and livestock farming, major institutions like Maybank are needed. It is expressed that the establishment of an advanced financial infrastructure will not only facilitate the daily operations of the local community but also increase the confidence of outside investors in the region.

This new vision, which is intended to be built upon the legacy of positive services contributed to the region by former public representatives, especially figures like Datuk Ir., holds great importance in gaining the support of the voters. Sumali, who also serves as the President of the Malezya Sepaktakraw Association (PSM), plans to address the unemployment issue in rural areas and create new employment opportunities, particularly for the youth. In this context, it is aimed to attract small and medium-sized enterprises to the region by utilizing the strategic locations of areas near the North-South Expressway, such as Sungai Pinggan and Jalan Parit Ismail. The candidate, stating that the creation of new job opportunities in the region will prevent the young population from migrating to other cities due to livelihood concerns, will focus on revitalizing the local economy. It is considered essential for the youth to stay in their own lands and continue living with their families for the preservation of the demographic and social structure of the region.

In addition to urban transformation and economic development goals, the candidate is also making plans to turn Benut into a touristic and cultural attraction center. As part of the promotion of its rich local culinary culture, it is planned to highlight local delicacies such as burasak, lepat liat, nasi Arab, and various types of coffee presentations. Furthermore, by utilizing the giant freshwater prawn (udang galah) catching potential of the Sungai Benut river, the region will be equipped with safe piers for fishing tourism, and aquaculture will be supported. Thanks to collaborations with the Pontian Municipality, it is aimed to professionalize the production activities along the riverbank and integrate them into the local economy. These projects will allow Benut to cease being merely an agricultural area and become a dynamic settlement that stands out with its cultural heritage.

In the Benut constituency, which is at a critical stage of the election process, a head-to-head, fierce competition is foreseen between Datuk Mohd. Sumali Reduan and the Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Abdul Razak Ismail. This process, in which both candidates are trying to offer solutions tailored to the region's needs, will be shaped depending on how the voters evaluate the development-focused promises. The financial and commercial modernization of the region, which has a strong agricultural infrastructure, stands out among the most fundamental expectations of the local people. In this context, it is obvious that the election results will directly determine the urban and economic development trajectory of Benut in the coming years. Such elections, where local dynamics are decisive in Malezya politics, are of great importance as they give the first signals of how regional development policies will be implemented.
