Malezya'nın Giant BCCK 2 Congress Center is Moving Ahead of the Planned Schedule

The Borneo Convention Centre Kuching II (BCCK 2) project, which is being built in Malezya'nın Sarawak eyaleti and planned to be the region's new landmark, is progressing much faster than expected. The massive project, which cost 550 milyon Malezya Ringiti (RM) and broke ground in Nisan 2025, reached a completion rate of over 13 percent as of Temmuz 2026. The full investment and commitment of the contractor firm CMS Land Sdn Bhd to the project contributed to the rapid progress of the process. Following the inspections made at the construction site by the authorities, it was stated that the current progress rate more than meets the expectations. This positive trend has raised hopes that the project could be completed in the first months of 2028, ahead of its initially planned date.

Datuk Aidel Lariwoo, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, stated in his statement to the press at the construction site that the contractor firm is exactly 1.5 months ahead of schedule. Emphasizing that they adhered to the entire plan and that no disruptions were experienced, the Minister expressed that he is extremely pleased with the current progress rate. In addition, he stated that the recent increases in diesel fuel prices did not affect this mega project negatively. There is no shortage in the supply of construction materials and machinery to be used in the construction, and the logistics process is running smoothly. This situation ensures the supply of materials and equipment guarantee, which is an important requirement for the project to be delivered before the planned date.

BCCK 2, which is set to become one of the world's largest single-story wooden structures when completed, will have a massive usage area of 15,500 square meters. With its 42-meter wide span, the building will offer an uninterrupted and spacious venue, representing a highly innovative example for the engineered timber industry. This massive convention center will not only make Sarawak an attractive destination for international events but also promote the state's timber industry globally. Expected to provide a great momentum to regional economic development, the project will also raise standards in the local construction and design sectors. In this respect, it is considered not just a building, but a strategic step showcasing Malezya'nın industrial capacity.

The main hall built within the scope of the project will cover an area of approximately 5,900 square meters, which is even larger than a football field. This giant main hall, which corresponds to approximately 1.47 acres, has already structurally reached its midpoint. In addition to the main hall, significant progress has been made in the construction of the multi-story car park, reaching up to the second level of the structural stage. Along with the car park, which will have a capacity of over a thousand vehicles in total, the complex will be able to host up to 9,500 delegates and participants simultaneously. Located right next to the Yeni Sejingkat Köprüsü, this complex will also strengthen its position in the region with its transportation accessibility when completed.

The cultural and economic importance of BCCK 2 for the Sarawak region is extremely great, as the facility will dramatically increase the region's capacity for international meetings. With its new generation conference and exhibition areas, it is aimed to become the favorite of global organizations and to draw global networks to the region. This structure, which will be integrated into the state's infrastructure, will also bring significant vitality to the tourism, service, and transportation sectors. The use of sustainable timber technologies rather than conventional building materials will pave the way for an eco-friendly architectural approach and add a green vision to the region.
