Important Agenda in the Malaysia Parliament: Health Insurance, Retirement Savings, and Volleyball

In today's session of the House of Representatives of Malaysia (Dewan Rakyat), the most critical issues on the country's agenda are expected to be addressed. One of the prominent first items of the session is the health insurance question planned to be directed at the Minister of Finance by the Cheras Milletvekili Tan Kok Wai. The cancellation of policies by insurance companies, especially for patients receiving treatment for critical illnesses and cancer, or their unjust denial of entitlement claims, has recently become a serious source of concern. In this context, the adoption of new and effective measures to protect policyholders is being demanded. Increasing transparency in the insurance sector and strengthening mechanisms for dispute resolution are also among the topics to be discussed. The steps the government will take in this area have the potential to significantly reduce the anxiety citizens experience regarding their health security.

The issue of retirement savings and the aging population is another important topic to be deeply examined in today's session. Port Dickson Milletvekili Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun will ask the Minister of Finance to explain the strategies aimed at ensuring Malaysians have adequate retirement savings. The constantly increasing cost of living and the country's transition towards an aging demographic structure by 2030 pose serious economic risks for Employees' Fund (EPF) participants. This situation reveals that the current retirement system needs to be revised not just with short-term solutions, but with permanent and sustainable policies. The measures the government will take to ensure that future generations and the current workforce can maintain their living standards are awaited with great curiosity.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Youth and Sports' efforts to discover and develop talented athletes in volleyball will also be discussed in Parliament today. Kangar Milletvekili Zakri Hassan will question the details and success of the talent scouting programs implemented by the ministry, particularly in the fields of indoor volleyball and beach volleyball. In addition to this, the effectiveness of the National Information Dissemination Centers (NADI), established to increase the digital skills and marketing capabilities of small entrepreneurs in rural areas, will be evaluated. These questions, to be answered by the Minister of Communications, will reveal how much progress has been made in the goals of improving the socio-economic status of rural communities. At the same time, the success of the mobile eCOSS application in preventing waste in subsidized packaged cooking oil will also be announced by the relevant ministries.

Following the main agenda items, the House of Representatives will proceed to the discussion and voting of important legislative regulations. The briefing of the report submitted by the Chair of the Health Select Committee regarding the Reform of the National Organ Donation and Transplant System will constitute one of the critical parts of the session. Following this, it is planned for the committee-stage debates on the 2026 Competition (Amendment) Bill to continue and the second reading of the 2026 Competition Commission (Amendment) Bill to take place.
