Scientifically Backed Master Plan for the Restoration of the Endhó Dam in Mexico

The Mexican National Water Commission has prepared a comprehensive master plan for the rehabilitation of the Endhó Dam, utilizing success stories from eight different countries. These countries include Germany, Brazil, China, the USA, Spain, India, Japan, and the Netherlands. The international data obtained was combined with contributions from local universities and research centers to develop restoration methods suitable for the dam's conditions.

This scientifically based strategy brings together continuous monitoring, technological innovation, and circular economy solutions. To solve the problem of excessive growth of water hyacinth caused by pollution and the resulting proliferation of Culex mosquitoes, experts from various fields such as agronomy, parasitology, and environmental engineering were included in the plan.

As part of the project, more than 109,600 cubic meters of water hyacinth have been cleaned from the dam to date, and fumigation has been applied to an area of more than 2,700 hectares. Prestigious academic institutions such as the University of Guanajuato, Chapingo Autonomous University, the National Polytechnic Institute, and the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) have carried out studies supporting the scientific validity of the process.
