Mexican Navy Seizes Approximately Three Tons of Cocaine Off the Coast of Oaxaca

In a successful operation conducted by the Mexican Navy as part of its Coast Guard duties, approximately three tons of cocaine were seized off the coast of Oaxaca. According to information provided by authorities, two small boats were stopped and inspected on suspicion during aerial and maritime patrol activities conducted in the region. During the searches, 86 packets of drugs weighing a total of 2,990 kilograms were found and handed over to the security forces. Four suspects, believed to be involved in the incident and suspected of engaging in illegal activities, were taken into custody during the operation. This major blow made a significant impact as it severely weakened the financial structure of organized crime syndicates.

Officials from the Secretaría de Marina (Ministry of Marine - Semar) issued an official statement to inform the public about the details of the operation. Accordingly, two small boats exhibiting suspicious behavior were detected during a routine maritime patrol flight conducted by naval personnel. Immediately following this detection, an Ocean Patrol Vessel dispatched to the area, along with its onboard helicopter, successfully intercepted and stopped the suspect boats. Security forces boarded the vessels and carried out a detailed search and seizure procedure. In addition to the seized boats, 20 full 50-liter plastic fuel cans and 8 empty cans, believed to support the logistics of the criminal organization, were also confiscated.

The four detained suspects, along with the tons of seized drugs and other evidentiary materials, were handed over to judicial authorities. It was announced that the suspects were handed over to the Attorney General's Office of Mexico (FGR) to initiate their legal proceedings and clarify their status. The prosecutor's office immediately opened comprehensive investigation files regarding the matter, initiating an in-depth investigative process. Authorities emphasized that such operations are of critical importance in reaching the high-ranking figures of the criminal networks. It was stated that these steps aim to strengthen the perception of the rule of law and security being established across the country.

Mexican government officials highlighted the great benefits of this seizure in terms of public health and national security. In the official statement, it was calculated that by preventing this large amount of cocaine from reaching the streets, the distribution of approximately 5 million 980 thousand doses of drugs was prevented. Authorities stated that this figure indicates a massive scale capable of poisoning the population of a district or a small city, and therefore the operation's value is immeasurable. It was emphasized that such decisive interventions will continue in order to stop the destructive effects of drugs on all segments of society, especially the youth. The government added that they are conducting an integrated security strategy on land, sea, and air to end the spiral of violence created by drug cartels.

This successful operation demonstrated the extent of the economic blow dealt to organized crime syndicates. In the assessment made by Semar, it was calculated that the seized drugs and materials caused an estimated material loss of 652 million 941 thousand 250 Mexican pesos for the organized crime organization. This massive financial loss is expected to seriously diminish the logistical capacity and operational capabilities of the criminal network. The Mexican Navy announced that since the current federal government took office, the amount of cocaine seized at sea alone has reached nearly 77 tons. These statistics stand out as a significant indicator that the country's relentless fight against coastal security and international drug trafficking continues with determination.
