Drug operation in Mersin's districts: Simultaneous raids on 31 addresses, 26 detentions

A very comprehensive operation was carried out targeting drug use and trade in the Anamur, Bozyazı, and Aydıncık districts of Mersin. Initiated under the coordination of the Anamur Chief Public Prosecutor's Office with the participation of narcotic teams affiliated with the Provincial Police Department and the Provincial Gendarmerie Command, the efforts were implemented as a result of intensive planning and an intelligence process. Teams conducted simultaneous raids on a total of 31 different addresses where the identified suspects resided, aiming to dismantle the drug sales network and users in the region. This operation demonstrated the determination of local security forces against drugs and the success of coordination between authorized units.

A total of 26 suspects were apprehended and taken into custody during the raids, and judicial proceedings were initiated against them. Evidence regarding drug use and trade was found during detailed searches of the addresses. Teams seized various amounts of substances such as marijuana, cannabis plants, cannabis seeds, and synthetic pharmaceuticals at the search points. Additionally, an unlicensed handgun, its magazine, and bullets were confiscated by the police as criminal evidence within the scope of the operation. These findings indicate that the suspects may be involved not only in drug use but also in crimes such as illegal weapons possession.

Details regarding how the items seized during the operation were hidden showed the extent of the examination conducted by the security forces. It was notable that the unlicensed handgun was removed from inside a steel safe containing a hidden compartment within the house. Similarly, the discovery of the cultivated cannabis plants inside a poultry house used to conceal the smell revealed that the suspects used special methods to hide the drugs. It was announced that legal proceedings were initiated against the 26 detainees for charges of drug use and possession. In a statement made by the security forces, it was stated that the procedures for the individuals in custody were ongoing and the investigation was being deepened. Whether the detainees will be referred to the judicial authorities after their statements are taken at the police station will become clear based on the course of the investigation.
