NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, during a significant press conference held in the capital Ankara, detailed the agenda items and new defense plans of the upcoming NATO Summit. Emphasizing that NATO's primary goal is to flawlessly protect all member territories against Russia, Rutte claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin's recent attacks in Ukraine actually reveal his desperation and military predicament. During the press conference, Rutte also made harsh statements regarding China's missile tests in the Pacific and the support provided by North Korea and Iran to Russia, stating that the allies absolutely cannot be pure and naive in the face of the common threat posed by these countries. These comprehensive statements aimed to clearly convey to the global public the military and strategic posture of the NATO alliance, which stands pressing against Russia's borders.

Stating that Turkey's geopolitical position and the leadership it has displayed in recent years are of vital importance, Rutte echoed the statement made by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in previous days by using the striking phrase "from Arkansas to Ankara". Emphasizing this rhetoric, Rutte argued that massive investments in the defense industry would not only ensure military security but also greatly strengthen the economies on both sides of the Atlantic. Praising that approximately three thousand companies operating in the defense industry sector in Turkey provide critical contributions to the NATO alliance, and that the country has made immense progress in this field over the past decade, Rutte acknowledged that Ankara's role in regional security is indispensable. Furthermore, he stated that by significantly increasing their military expenditures, European countries and Canada have made the alliance's eastern flank, the Baltic region, and the Arctic much stronger, emphasizing that they will maintain their persistent policies regarding armament investments.

The NATO Secretary General asserted that the security strain claimed to be created by Russia is very real, and that the dynamics of war in the battlefields of Ukraine are currently changing rapidly. Stating that the recent air and missile attacks carried out by Russia on Ukrainian territory have exposed Moscow's military defeat and Putin's desperation in military strategy, Rutte unequivocally reiterated that NATO's material and military support for Ukraine will continue. Noting that the decisions taken in Lahey must be implemented and that much more investment must be made in defense industry capabilities, Rutte declared that they aim to ensure a fair and effective burden-sharing within the alliance by balancing armament targets. In this context, he added that combining the arms industry and military forces would be one of the most crucial steps to be taken to protect Ukraine's territorial integrity.

Arguing that the new division of labor within the NATO alliance is highly efficient and working 'smoothly', Rutte noted that actual field operations and command structures have now been de facto taken over by European allies. However, Rutte stated that when it comes to American land, air, and sea commands, they continue to shoulder the heavy burden of global strategic responsibility, emphasizing that the troop density in ground forces to be deployed at the forward edges is increasingly becoming Europe-centric. Touching upon his meetings with US President Donald Trump at the White House, the NATO chief signaled that NATO allies would provide much more active support to the US regarding aggressive policies toward the Strait of Hormuz and Iran. By referring to incidents where British warplanes scrambled against Russian military vessels in the Norveç Sea, he stated that such military interventions prove NATO's determination and high level of readiness in defending itself.

Rutte, who did not leave unanswered questions regarding the covert and hidden military sanctions imposed on Turkey by some NATO and AB member countries, acknowledged that political debates occasionally occur within the alliance as natural. However, he stated that his role is to try to resolve issues with a prudent diplomatic language behind the scenes, without getting overly excited and without creating crises in front of everyone's eyes. He emphasized that the sole common goal behind all these political disagreements and international crises is to protect all NATO territories against external threats, especially from Russia. He concluded the press conference by stating that the Savunma Sanayii Forumu, which will begin tomorrow, will be a highly important arena where credible defense structures and the alliance's military might will be showcased to the entire world.
