Parking Rules Temporarily Lifted in Taichung as Moderate Typhoon Bavi Approaches

As the moderate typhoon Bavi approaches Taiwan, local governments have accelerated the process of taking various precautions. The Taichung City Government, one of Taiwan's major cities, announced emergency decisions to ensure public safety. In this context, work and education were temporarily suspended to minimize potential damage. Official authorities warned that severe weather conditions could occasionally cause visible damage depending on their intensity. Officials advised all citizens to stay in their homes during the storm period to ensure their safety.

The Taichung city administration implemented measures starting from 18:00 on 10 Temmuz to mitigate the negative effects of the typhoon. It was announced that on 11 Temmuz, work and classes would be completely halted in all public institutions, schools, and private businesses. With this decision, life in the city deviated from its normal course, entirely shifting into preparation mode for a potential natural disaster. Government officials emphasized that weather conditions are being constantly monitored and that additional measures could be implemented if the situation worsens. Serious regulations were also made in traffic and transportation systems across the city in line with this decision.

It is known that one of the biggest problems during a typhoon is the parking of vehicles and the creation of safe areas on the streets. The Taichung Transportation Bureau reportedly implemented a comprehensive parking permit program to allow citizens to move their vehicles to safe locations. Accordingly, the parking ban in red and yellow lined zones on flat road routes wider than 15 meters was temporarily lifted. These areas, where parking is strictly prohibited under normal circumstances, were allocated to drivers within the scope of emergency management and transformed into safe havens. In this way, it is aimed to prevent vehicles from flying or crashing into each other during severe winds and heavy rainfall.

Within the scope of the new regulation, the same parking waivers were applied at strategic points, particularly Huan Zhong Yolu Section 8 (including the Futai area). It was stated that there are specific rules for people to park their vehicles at these points, and that parking is strictly prohibited in emergency lanes. Officials warned that to keep traffic flow from completely stopping, the paths of emergency vehicles such as ambulances, fire trucks, and police must always be kept open. Additionally, they requested that citizens leave emergency contact numbers visibly in their parked vehicles. Such detailed arrangements demonstrate how meticulously modern city administrations plan during natural disasters.

As Typhoon Bavi affects the region, local people's efforts to stock up on supplies and water from markets have increased. Although Taiwan is accustomed to facing many typhoons a year due to its geographical location, every storm is taken seriously, and preparations are made against their destructive effects. Officials added that any potential changes in the direction or intensity of the typhoon will be shared with the public through immediate press releases. The measures in Taichung are planned to be lifted after the declared holidays once weather conditions normalize. During this process, it is of great importance that the entire public strictly complies with official warnings to prevent any loss of life or property.
