Rising Violence in San Marino on the Agenda: DOMANI Party Calls for Security and Youth Policies

Three violent incidents that occurred in San Marino in recent days have brought security concerns across the country back to the agenda. The DOMANI – Motus Liberi party emphasizes that the rising crime rates and the struggles faced by youth can no longer be solved with episodic interventions or political indifference. Among these incidents are a robbery where a citizen was pepper-sprayed in Borgo Maggiore, a brawl that broke out in Via Giacomini in the San Marino city center, and the detention of a French citizen for credit card theft. In the theft incident, an accomplice who attempted to flee managed to escape by running over a Rocca Guard soldier. In a statement published by the party's press office, it is noted that these events are merely the latest and most alarming signs of an ongoing unrest deep within the country. Authorities argue that urgent and solid measures must be taken, and effective prevention plans must be implemented to stop this creeping crime phenomenon.

The DOMANI – Motus Liberi party lists its demands for urgent solutions, arguing that security is a top-tier value for the country and that the government must intervene. They state that more personnel, technical equipment, and up-to-date legal regulations are needed to protect the streets and activate the fight against crime. It is acknowledged that San Marino security forces carried out their duties commendably in situations such as their rapid intervention in the Via Giacomini incident and the capture of the French thief. However, according to the party's long-standing view, security forces are struggling with serious issues such as structural deficiencies and inadequate staffing. In this context, it is requested that a debate be urgently initiated in parliament to restructure the police forces in order to optimize human resources and prevent overlapping job descriptions.

Strengthening the technological infrastructure also stands out as an integral part of the security strategy proposed by the party. It is necessary to utilize advanced software for crime analysis, install smart security cameras, and implement shared IT systems across different units. It is emphasized that these technological tools are now indispensable in the fight against increasingly cunning and widespread crime networks. Additionally, it is recommended to adapt neighborhood watch programs, which are widely implemented in the neighboring country of Italy, to San Marino in order to enhance control mechanisms. In the context of strengthening the social infrastructure, it is planned to establish various cultural centers, study rooms where they can work freely, gymnasia, and studios where music groups can rehearse. The construction of regional playgrounds and facilities catering to youth are concrete projects expected to distance them from street culture and direct them toward constructive social interactions. The DOMANI – Motus Liberi party argues that the time for talking has expired regarding these issues they have been raising for years, and the government must stop sweeping the dust under the rug and take responsibility. While San Marino citizens demand more security personnel, young people also state that they need appropriate environments to improve themselves. The party promises to resolutely pursue these holistic policies for the protection of the social fabric and the security of every citizen.
