Armed Attack in the Middle of the Street in Chile: Two Suspects Detained

Regarding the armed attack that took place in Santiago, the capital of Chile, police teams have taken two suspects into custody. The incident occurred on Wednesday, 24 June, at the intersection of Morandé and San Pablo streets. According to incoming reports, two individuals moving on a scooter suddenly opened fire on the street. Upon pedestrians in the vicinity reporting the situation to the authorities as both witnesses and potential victims, a comprehensive investigation was launched. Following the incident, teams dispatched to the area began examining security cameras and witness statements.

The Metropolitan Region Police Investigation Department of the Carabineros acted swiftly to shed light on the incident. Consultations with eyewitnesses and a detailed examination of television surveillance (televigilancia) cameras enabled the identification of the suspects. In line with the critical evidence obtained, the residences of the two suspects who carried out the attack were identified. After determining the addresses where the individuals lived, the investigating teams obtained the necessary legal permits for the operation. This incident once again demonstrated how decisive the public's timely reporting to the police is in apprehending criminals.

Central Prefecture Patrol Officer Lieutenant Gustavo Uribe provided details regarding the operation. Uribe stated that a successful raid was carried out following comprehensive investigation and tracking processes. In the official statement made, it was noted that the operation resulted in the capture of two suspects and the seizure of the firearm used in the incident. Additionally, it was emphasized that the scooter used by the suspects on the day of the incident was also seized by the police. Authorities stated that they adopt a zero-tolerance policy against the threat such armed incidents pose to public health and safety.

Police teams conducted the operation in line with the search and entry warrant for the suspects' addresses located in the Independencia commune. During the searches, a 9x19mm caliber pistol-type firearm was seized from the individuals believed to be the perpetrators of the incident. It was determined that the magazine of the firearm in question contained a total of 15 rounds of ammunition. In addition, to support the investigation conducted by the judicial authorities, the clothes worn by the perpetrators on the day they committed the incident were also found and recorded as evidence. All obtained materials carry critical evidentiary value for the punishment of the criminals in the judicial process.

The detained suspects were identified as 18 and 16 years old and of Venezuelan nationality. According to information obtained from security units, it was revealed that both individuals had previous criminal records for violent robbery. The suspects will be referred to the courthouse on charges of unjustified and unprovoked armed shooting on a public road and illegal possession of a weapon. Following the detention procedures carried out on Saturday, the suspects are planned to be brought before the court within their legal period. Authorities stated that they will meticulously follow the trial process of these foreign nationals and take all necessary steps to ensure justice is served.
