13.2 Million Lira Worth of Illegal Gold Seized in Şırnak: 2 Detained

In a successful operation carried out in the Cizre district of Şırnak, a significant stockpile of gold intended for illegal trade was seized by our security forces. Teams from the Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime (KOM) Department, affiliated with the Provincial Police Directorate, continue their intelligence and inspection work uninterruptedly to completely prevent smuggling activities in the region. Within this scope, a detailed and systematic search was conducted on a vehicle stopped on suspicion at a checkpoint determined on the Cizre-Nusaybin highway. During the search, it was determined that there were 3 pieces of raw gold in total, weighing 2 kilos 100 grams and attracting attention with their mold sizes, located in hidden compartments in the vehicle or on the persons.

In evaluations regarding the issue, it was determined that the seized gold holds a very high material value of approximately 13 million 200 thousand Turkish Liras when calculated based on current market conditions and market prices. This figure clearly reveals not only that the operation was a legal measure but also how great a financial loss was averted and how the state's loss of revenue was prevented.
