2 people killed, 5 injured in apartment fire in Çorlu, Tekirdağ

A severe natural gas explosion occurred on the top floor of a six-story apartment building located in Hıdırağa Neighborhood, Borsa Meydanı, in the Çorlu district of Tekirdağ. Initial examinations determined that the explosion was caused by natural gas, while it was noted that the incident caused great panic in the region and caused fear among local residents. At the moment of the explosion, the exterior facade of the building disintegrated, and the damage spread to surrounding buildings. The intense sound rising from the sixth floor of the building, supplied with natural gas by GAZDAŞ Trakya network, echoed throughout the entire neighborhood, creating a scene resembling a war zone. Under the impact of the explosion, the walls of the apartment collapsed, exterior pieces spilled into the street, and windows of surrounding buildings were broken and damaged.

Upon hearing about the incident, numerous police, fire, and medical teams were dispatched to the region to intervene, while the teams closed the street entrances and exits to prevent the risk of a new accident and established a wide security corridor. Police teams tried to ensure that investigations at the scene could be carried out safely by keeping citizens away. Health teams, entering the apartment which had turned into rubble, detected that two citizens lost their lives during their initial check, and the condition of the injured was urgently evaluated. The five injured people were taken to hospitals in the Çorlu district center by ambulances after initial intervention at the scene and were taken under treatment. While no official statement was made regarding the severity of the health status of the injured referred to the hospital, it was shared that their treatments continue.

Fire crews completed the search and rescue and control work started in the building, and it was reported that all necessary precautions were taken to ensure security at the scene. Gas company officials also cut the building's energy to contribute to technical investigations to determine the exact cause of the explosion. While examinations continue regarding the removal of the rubble and the security of the building, officials have started sharing information about the details of the incident. Police teams are continuing their work to clarify whether the explosion was caused by a gas accumulation or a device malfunction. Technical examination continues within the scope of the investigation launched regarding the incident, while experts continue their investigations to reveal the cause of the explosion.
