One person lost their life in the explosion that occurred in an apartment in the Çorlu district of Tekirdağ.

The explosion and fire that occurred late at night in an apartment located in Cemaliye Mahallesi within the Çorlu district of Tekirdağ caused great panic and concern in the region. It was learned that the incident took place around 23.00 in an apartment on the top floor of a 7-story apartment building near Borsa Meydanı. With the severity of the explosion, a fire broke out immediately in the apartment, and serious damage occurred to part of the exterior wall and windows. Residents of the area, in fear due to the loud noise and tremor caused by the explosion, evacuated their homes and fled to a safe zone.

Upon notification, police, health, fire, and AFAD teams were dispatched to the scene, and extensive security measures were taken in the region to commence work. As a result of the timely and intensive efforts of the fire crews, the fire in the apartment was brought under control and extinguished, preventing it from spreading to other floors. In initial examinations by the teams, it was shared that the lifeless body of one person was found in the damaged apartment, and the identity of this person had not yet been determined. The body of the deceased was taken to the morgue for autopsy procedures after the necessary examinations at the scene were completed.

In initial assessments regarding the cause of the explosion, it was stated that the possibility of a natural gas leak or a technical malfunction was being considered, based on similar incidents in the region. Regarding the issue, a comprehensive investigation was launched under the coordination of the Çorlu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to determine the exact cause of the explosion and to clarify all details of the incident. Crime scene investigation teams continue to work meticulously to collect evidence from the apartment and its surroundings and to determine the starting point of the explosion.

Due to the impact of the explosion, material damage was observed in other apartments on the ground and upper floors of the building due to broken windows and falling items. While apartment residents and those nearby struggled to recover for a while from the shock of this unfortunate event, officials warned citizens to remain calm. Municipal teams were kept on standby in the region for damage assessment and cleaning work to be ready to mobilize in case of requests for support.

Finally, in a statement made by the Çorlu District Governorship and Municipality, it was stated that every development regarding the incident was being followed closely, and condolences were offered to the family of the deceased citizen. Citizens were advised to avoid speculation until the exact cause of the explosion is revealed and to follow official announcements. It was announced that police security measures would continue without interruption to normalize life in the region and ensure security.
