Ukraine deals blow to Crimea: Numerous Russian aircraft destroyed at Saki Airbase

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) officially announced that it has carried out a significant operation against strategic military targets in Russia's Crimea region. In a written statement, it was stated that a successful attack was launched on the Saki Military Airfield located in the occupied territories, and the operation aimed to inflict significant damage to Russia's military capacity. It was emphasized that the attack was part of a comprehensive 40-day offensive plan approved by Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenskiy and prepared to force an end to the war.

In the operation, hangars housing combat aircraft belonging to the Russian Air Force were specifically targeted. It was recorded that numerous modern warplanes, including Su-30SM, Su-30, and Su-24 types, were destroyed or heavily damaged as a result of the attack. Initial assessments indicate that at least 7 aircraft were rendered unusable, and these losses are expected to weaken Russia's air superiority in the region. SBU officials added in their statements that this attack was the second major operation carried out against Saki Airbase within the last week.

The clashes were not limited to Saki Military Airfield but also extended to another critical point in the region, Gvardeyskoye Airbase. In the attack on this base, two separate hangars identified as storing 'Shahed' type unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), which Russia frequently uses and causes significant damage, were targeted with precision strikes. It was also shared that various aviation equipment and logistics materials stored in these hangars were destroyed in the attack. With this action, it is predicted that Russia's drone attack capacity has also been dealt a blow.

At the center of the planned strategy is the goal of the Ukrainian administration to force Russia to the negotiating table. The 40-day attack plan approved by President Zelenskiy aims to increase pressure on the battlefield for the withdrawal of occupying forces. The coordinated and in-depth operations of the SBU emerge as the most concrete reflection of this strategic plan. The Ukrainian army is attempting to change the course of the war by systematically targeting Russian logistics and military infrastructure in the occupied regions.
