The Jordan Standards and Metrology Institution (JISM) seized 1212 motor oil packages that failed to meet technical standards during intensive inspections carried out in the Northern Region. During these field inspections, which aim to ensure products in markets comply with laws, Institution teams adopted a firm stance against products that threaten consumer safety and health. Examinations revealed that a significant portion of the seized products were imitations of globally recognized brands and produced without meeting quality standards. This operation highlights the ongoing fight against fraudulent production and sales in the local market and the sensitivity of official institutions towards the issue.

Following the inspections, it was determined that 336 of the seized packages bore counterfeit trademarks of famous brands, while the remaining 876 packages were fully non-compliant with technical specifications. It was emphasized that the economic establishment selling these products held the status of a 'repeat violator' who continued operations despite warnings and repeated similar grave offenses. This situation indicates that the establishment will not only face financial penalties but may also confront heavier sanctions, such as administrative closure. JISM announced that legal processes are being diligently conducted within the framework of the law and that those seeking unlawful gain will be held accountable.

Within the scope of legal proceedings, it was announced that necessary actions were being initiated under the provisions of the Standards Law No. 22 of 2000 regarding the involved establishment and seized goods, and that deterrent penalties would be applied. Alongside pursuing criminals on legal grounds, the Institution warned consumers that they need to be aware and cautious during this process. It was conveyed that inspections would continue to increase in the upcoming period to ensure citizen safety and that market supervision would be tightened. It was stated that such operations are of great importance in eliminating elements that hinder fair trade and disrupt the economic order.

To protect the public against such fraudulent products, the Institution issued important warnings and guidance to consumers, recalling safe shopping principles. Consumers were advised to always shop from sales points with official licenses, check the mandatory declaration label on the product, and always keep shopping receipts to track the product's source. Additionally, citizens were called upon to immediately report any product or situation they suspect. In this context, the use of official digital channels such as designated communication lines via phone and WhatsApp, the 'Bizde Hizmetinizde' (We Are at Your Service) platform, and the 'Sund' application was requested, aiming to ensure the public's active participation in the inspection process.

These inspections are considered a precaution against the serious risk of damage and financial losses caused by the increased use of fake motor oil in vehicle engines, particularly in recent times. It was announced that controls were tightened to prevent the financial burden on citizens caused by mechanical failures due to fake oils and that progress was being made towards the 2026 targets. The Institution has adopted a strategic plan nationwide to reduce the rate of counterfeit and low-quality products to zero, aiming to protect both economic interests and the consumer's wallet. Experts state that the use of low-quality oil shortens engine life and creates safety risks, making the preference for original and certified products a necessity for vehicle owners.
