Budget Soars from 30 Million to 230 Million: Major Ravi's Film Collapses

Major Ravi, who is well-known in Malayalam cinema in both acting and directing, has carved out a unique place for himself, especially with his military-themed films. The successful director, who has appeared before audiences with productions such as 'Keerthichakra' and 'Picket 43' throughout his career, has recently preferred to remain silent. According to his own statements, no feature film he has directed has been released for exactly nine years. However, during this process, a few different projects that frequently made headlines were announced on various platforms. In a recent interview, he announced that one of these eagerly awaited projects by his fans would not be realized.

According to Major Ravi's statements, the project, which was planned to be launched with a very reasonable budget of about 20-30 million rupees, unexpectedly spiraled out of control. The initial plans for this film, titled 'Operation Rahat', which aimed to feature Tamil actor Sarath Kumar in the lead role, were kept quite limited. However, due to the involvement of the producer in the process and changes in decisions within the team, costs began to rise steadily. The director stated that this astronomical increase occurred without his knowledge and approval, and he was greatly astonished by the situation. The constant desire to include different and popular actors in the cast inflated the project's budget immensely.

This budget crisis reached much larger proportions with the attempt to bring Akshay Kumar, one of Bollywood's most famous stars, into the project. Major Ravi stated that the fee demanded for Akshay Kumar to act in the film alone was at the level of 80 million rupees. The high price tag of the famous Bollywood star completely increased the already bloated budget to 230 million rupees. Ravi emphasized that reaching such gigantic figures before a film's production is illogical and that the project's sustainability was jeopardized. For this reason, he clearly stated to his producer friend that making the film under these conditions was impossible.

Major Ravi also shared with members of the press his own approach regarding the production processes and budget management of military-themed feature films. He stated that in other projects he directed, he always looked for cost-effective solutions and planned every detail in advance. He even mentioned that he did not experience a similar budget problem for his other military film in production, 'Operation Sindoor', and on the contrary, he obtained many resources and support at much more affordable costs by using his personal influence. Major Ravi argues that the visual grandeur of a war or military film can be achieved not only with money but also with strategic planning. He openly admitted that he had completely lost hope in the 'Operation Rahat' project and that he has now shelved the film.

However, the future of his other project, 'Operation Sindoor', which will bring together Mohanlal, one of the legendary actors of Malayalam cinema, in the lead role, remains uncertain. Major Ravi admitted that the situation is quite ambiguous, unable to provide clear information even on whether the film will be released or not. He stated that at the moment, no one knows how the process will proceed or whether the film will be brought to life. If the project does not materialize, this situation serves as a cautionary tale showing how fragile the pursuit of big-budget productions in Indian cinema, especially Hindi cinema, can be. Cinema circles and audiences are closely following the probability of the experienced director completing any of these projects.
