CHP Deputy Veli Ağbaba's Nephew Ahmet Can Ağbaba Detained Over Unexplained Money Transactions

Within the scope of an investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, CHP Malatya Deputy Veli Ağbaba's nephew, Ahmet Can Ağbaba, was detained. In the examinations, it was alleged that high-value money inflows and outflows with an unclear source were detected in the suspect's bank accounts. In light of these financial findings, necessary procedures were carried out by law enforcement units pursuant to the instructions given by the prosecutor's office. The detention decision was made particularly on the grounds that the activity in the accounts had no legal basis. Following the completion of Ahmet Can Ağbaba's interrogation at the police department, it is expected that he will be referred to the judicial authorities.

Although the current investigation is conducted centrally in Istanbul, it is progressing in a wide network covering the municipality administration in İzmir and political connections in Ankara. The prosecutor's office is examining in detail the movements in the suspects' bank accounts and the justifications for the money transfers. It is a matter of curiosity whether Ahmet Can Ağbaba will follow a similar defense in his statement or explain the source of the money in the accounts.
