Cisjordania on the Brink of Collapse

The United Nations' Assistant Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Ramiz Alakbarov, stated that Cisjordania is "on the brink of collapse". Alakbarov noted that in 2026, 76 Palestinians, including 18 children, were killed by Israeli forces or settlers. Additionally, three Israelis were also killed during the same period.

The deterioration of the situation in Cisjordania, according to Alakbarov, is not a new phenomenon, but the result of unresolved decades. This situation has deepened Israel's illegal occupation, weakened the Palestinian Authority, and reduced the likelihood of establishing an independent, viable, and sovereign Palestinian state.

Alakbarov expressed concern over the violence of Israeli settlers against Palestinian communities. The UN has documented over 1,430 settler attacks in more than 260 Palestinian communities over the past eight months.
