Doosan Enerbility has signed a new contract to supply critical components for China's expansion of its nuclear energy capacity. The company has agreed with Dongfang Electric International and Dongfang Heavy Machinery to provide ultra-large cast components for the steam generators of the 5 and 6 units of the Laiyang Nuclear Power Plant in Shandong Province.
Doosan Enerbility will deliver eight cast components by 2029. The order includes four channel heads and four tube sheets, which are among the most critical materials used in nuclear steam generators. The cast products have a diameter of approximately 5 meters and weigh 130 tons each. The steam generators produce steam using the heat generated by the reactor to drive the turbines.
Doosan Enerbility stated that the components will be manufactured using its 17,000-ton press, one of the world's largest, and ultra-large casting technology.
