Flipper Zero Continues with Community Power: A New Era in the Software Development Process

Flipper Devices, the manufacturer of the famous penetration testing device Flipper Zero, has officially announced that the device's software (firmware) development process will continue. The company is transitioning to a new structure that will heavily rely on the contributions of the user community by reducing its direct control over the project. Community members will be able to submit their own change proposals on this platform and allow other users to prioritize them by voting on these ideas. The developer team will regularly evaluate these proposals every week and transparently show contributors the process their ideas go through. Although users are encouraged to continue making code contributions, it was also clearly stated that these will undergo much stricter security reviews before being added to the official software.

Any change to be made in the software will have to go through mandatory integration and regression tests before being included in the official release. Since these testing processes are also designed transparently, community members will be able to personally contribute to these quality control stages. The smaller developer team remaining in-house will continue to closely monitor artificial intelligence-generated codes. Additionally, changes occurring in the device's interface and updates requiring new documentation will be meticulously tracked by the company's existing personnel.

Another important reason for the company restructuring its software process is their desire to shift their focus to new hardware projects. After approximately three years of active development, the Flipper Zero software reached version 1.0 in September 2024, and since December 2025, version 1.4.3 has been offered to users. The developer team believes that the current software has now matured, possesses a stable SDK, and that all promised features have been successfully added. Therefore, the company decided to focus on a new open-source Linux-based platform called Flipper One, which is being developed with the community's help. Furthermore, the company announced a brand-new hardware project called Busy Bar, aimed at helping individuals with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) reduce daily distractions.
