India-Based Industrial Security Force Director General Reviewed Security Measures for Amarnath Visit

The Director General of the India-Based Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Praveer Ranjan, visited the Nunwan Base Camp in Pahalgam to conduct a comprehensive security audit as part of the ongoing 2026 Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra pilgrimage. Ranjan was accompanied by ADG (North) Sudhir Kumar and DIG/NZ-II M K Yadav during this significant visit. Officials stated that the visit was planned to inspect the security infrastructure in the region on-site and identify any deficiencies. This audit is of great importance to ensure that no security vulnerabilities occur during the Amarnath pilgrimage, which is attended by millions of Hindu pilgrims every year and takes place under challenging geographical conditions. This development, reported from Srinagar, stands out as part of the measures taken by Indian security forces throughout the pilgrimage period.

According to a statement issued by the security forces' spokesperson, a wide range of elements, from patrol plans to access control systems, were evaluated during the Director General's visit. As part of the review, surveillance systems, communication networks, logistical support, and medical emergency response infrastructure were also inspected in detail. Officials emphasized that inter-agency coordination is critical to guaranteeing the life and property safety of the pilgrims. Throughout the visit, one-on-one meetings were held with field personnel to test their operational readiness levels on-site. This comprehensive review was conducted to see how quickly and in a coordinated manner security units can act against a potential terror threat or natural disaster scenario.

During the field inspection, Director General Ranjan visited all critical operational points in the region one by one. All critical security facilities, including checkpoints, communication centers, Quick Response Teams (QRT), and Quick Action Teams (QAT), were closely examined. Additionally, the CCTV Control Room was visited to check whether the cameras were operating without interruption and the efficiency of the live image transmission system. Ranjan met with security personnel on duty, female officers, and healthcare workers operating in the region, conveying a message of appreciation for their sacrifices. During these meetings, it was emphasized that all personnel must maintain their operational readiness standards at the highest level, strictly adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs), and maintain a state of uninterrupted vigilance.

Immediately after the field visit, a high-level security assessment meeting was held with the participation of senior security officials operating in the region. In this meeting, which was attended by senior representatives from CISF, CRPF, ITBP, Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Police, and the civil administration, the overall security architecture was reviewed from start to finish. During the meeting, data sharing and crisis-time response mechanisms among different security agencies were discussed. It was concluded that all agencies uniting around a common strategy is essential, given the complex security dynamics of the region. An inter-agency consensus was reached on addressing deficiencies in the security architecture and enhancing field readiness, and it was decided to maintain these standards throughout the pilgrimage.

In his post-meeting assessment, Director General Ranjan highly praised the dedicated efforts of all personnel serving in the field. He stated that the security forces are highly confident in completing the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026 event smoothly, safely, and without any security incidents. These statements demonstrate the Indian government's determination to ensure stability in the region and safely continue religious tourism. Following security concerns experienced in the region in past years, these multi-layered measures pave the way for pilgrims to complete their visits in peace. Officials reported that all measures will continue to be implemented flawlessly until the end of the pilgrimage and that the high security alert in the region is being maintained.
